Hypnotherapy is a psychological therapy, a technique of counselling using deep relaxation to enable the client to reach a trance state. In this trance state, a client's conscious mind is so relaxed that the therapist can communicate directly with their subconscious mind. The subconscious mind governs beliefs, habits, impulses and irrational thoughts. The conscious, thinking part of our mind, the part which rationalises our thoughts and behaviours, is powerfully influenced by the content of the subconscious mind.
Indeed, it is estimated that 95% of our thoughts and feelings are governed by our subconscious mind. What we really think is largely hidden from us. In other words, most of what we know we don’t know we know. What we think and feel today, is largely the same as what we thought yesterday (and the day before). Much of our belief system was laid down in childhood.
The great Greek philosopher Aristotle once said - “Give me a child at 7 and I will show you the man”
Suitable suggestions made to the subconscious can result in changes that will enable the client to achieve their goals. Trance is a very natural state, one you go into before sleeping, and often during the day - for example when you are driving somewhere on a route you know well and you reach your destination almost on auto-pilot. You may have been thinking of something else, while your subconscious was driving the car. Watching TV can have the same effect as we become absorbed in what we are watching and become less aware of our surroundings.
Many of the techniques used in hypnotherapy have a grounding in neuro-linguistic programming (often referred to as NLP). NLP is defined as ‘the study of the structure of our subjective experience’. When used in hypnotherapy, its purpose is to positively restructure or replace a person’s unwanted behaviours, feelings or beliefs.

I relocated from West Suffolk in 2020 and am now based near Fritton on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, close to Lowestoft, Somerleyton and Gorleston on Sea, with easy access from Gt Yarmouth, Beccles and Norwich.
My spacious and comfortable treatment room is in a purpose-built extension of my country cottage in a parkland setting, with duck-ponds behind and just a short stroll from the Caldecott Hall golf course and Barn Works Fitness Spa. There is plenty of free parking available.
I also run sessions two days a week and regular Usui Reiki Training courses with fellow therapist and Healer, Rob Tarry, in the quaint rural village of Congham, near King’s Lynn, with Sandringham and the beautiful North Norfolk coast close by.
Bed and Breakfast accommodation is available on site, if you want to enjoy a treatment as part of a longer break. www.highcottsbanb.co.uk
