Indian Head Massage (also called Champissage) is a traditional form of massage that focuses on the head, face, neck, shoulders and upper arms. It has a rich and ancient history that blends traditional Indian healing practices with more modern adaptations.
Origins in Ayurveda (over 4,000 years ago)
Relaxes and loosens the muscles of the head and neck, aiding mobility and reducing headaches associated with tight muscular tension around the neck.
Massaging the scalp stimulates circulation which increases oxygen and nutrient delivery to hair roots. Healthy follicles are more likely to stay in the growth phase (anagen phase) of the hair cycle and slow down hair loss. Indian head massage lowers cortisol and promotes relaxation, reducing stress-related shedding.
Gentle massage of the scalp, neck, and shoulders stimulates relaxation and shifts the body toward the parasympathetic nervous system (rest-and-digest mode). This reduces adrenaline and cortisol levels, helping blood vessels relax and lowering blood pressure.
Massage stimulates the release of "feel-good" hormones (endorphins, serotonin, dopamine).
This reduces stress and induces a sense of calm, both of which help lower blood pressure.
A 1/2 hour treatment is £25 and can be combined with a 1/2 hour of Reiki/healing for £50
